Bar-B-Q HUT

THE ORIGINAL Bar-B-Q HUT

The original Bar-B-Q hut has been known for delicious Bar-B-Q in south Trinidad, for several years. Every weekend there are long lines of people waiting for their Bar-B-Q. They do chicken, beef and lamb. They became famous for their garlic and bar b q sauce, their affordable price and made a hut feel comfortable. The original Bar-B-Q hut has come a long way from it's La Romaine days to where it is on Cipero Road.

They are a definite must try in south Trinidad, always be prepared for a long line, but the food is worth the wait. A comfortable family environment or a place for friends to have a quick meal together.

Do it Yourself - Curried Crab

Curried Crab

Trinidad and Tobago is famously known for "curry crab and dumpling". Tobago is known for making crab and dumpling, and every Trinidadian family may have a different recipe. My family makes curry crab and cornmeal dumplings. Our curry crab generally has dasheen bush aka Spinach with curry and crab. I recommend it. If you are visiting Trinidad and Tobago curried crab and dumpling is a definite MUST TRY!

Hyatt Trinidad has been considered one of the top spots in Port of Spain no matter the day, it is always a Buzz with activity. Hyatt offers a Sushi bar, and small eats for groups of people. I would highly recommend trying them, just be prepared to pay a little more. The Sushi is a must try and the atmosphere is definitely a relaxing environment to have a leisurely dinner.

Sumo Sushi

Always nice to try something new! Sumo Sushi

Don't let the name fool you, Sumo Sushi opened its first store on the campus of the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. They offer Noodle bowls, Ramen, small appetizers and prepackaged Sushi rolls. The noodle bowl was delicious. Hot and ready to eat in a few minutes. It is unfortunate they opened at the University where parking is sometimes difficult. So for all the former UWI students like myself and all the non-students try Sumo Sushi now while most students are away, on vacation.

Sumo Sushi also does prepackaged sushi rolls available in Massy Stores and Price Smart. I highly recommend trying them as they are delicious and packaged daily.

Authentic Indian - Himchuli Restaurant

Himchuli Restaurant

You don't have to go to India for authentic Indian food...

Himchuli Restaurant is located on El Socorro Road. They also provide parking. The food is delicious and spicy. A simply set restaurant with good quality authentic Indian food. they offer different ready made lunch specials to go, or a menu to order portions.

I recommend finding them and trying the food, if its a 'to go' lunch meal or a sit down and enjoy with friends and family. Indian food is traditionally a meal that can be shared, which makes trying food more enjoyable as it comes along with great company and exciting conversation.

Zanzibar

Zanzibar - Food, Music and drinks!

Zanzibar has three locations in Trinidad. The newest location in Price Plaza has become one of my 'Go to' restaurants. Good food and excellent service.

If you are looking for Peruvian Cuisine or just a place to lime or a date, this is a 'Go to' in Central. The service is excellent, has been since they opened, competing with the larger franchisees in Price Plaza. The restaurant combines not just Zanzibar but Kaizan Sushi!

The Appetizers are fulling with a wide range of meat appetizers and seafood. I highly recommend their seafood. The meals are tasty and fulling and not overpriced. If you are allergic to one type of seafood they alter the meals as well, it does not hurt to ask.

Do it Yourself - Sawine

The Beauty of Being a Trinidadian!

No matter your religion or your belief, we celebrate all holidays. We eat each other foods and enjoy a bounty of holidays which shows our country's diversity.

Sawine or Sewine is something we Trini's know and traditionally have when Muslims end the month of Ramadan (a month of fasting).

Sawine has been one of my personal favourites that everyone has a different way of cooking as well as eating.

It is a milk based desert, of vermicelli and spices. I would highly recommend forgetting your diet and use condensed milk. Some people like Sawine, hot. Others prefer it cold and with different toppings.

Below shows the ingredients for toppings, and in Trinidad groceries Sawine packs are created for ease of use to create this delicious desert. It is one of the easiest deserts to create.

Do it yourself

Salmon Wellington

Many of our Facebook news feeds are always filled with 'tasty videos' and 'proper tasty'. The new craze for different food videos has been growing. Being adventurous after work, I decided to make Salmon Wellington, but with a few changes.

Phyllo dough instead of pastry, and pesto mixed into the spinach. Sometimes trying something new and cutting down on the amount of cheese in a recipe, you can create something amazing. Spinach, limited amount of cream cheese and pesto for the filling. The entire process was quick and easy. I would definitely recommend trying your hand at this!

Sushi - Kaizan Price Plaza

You can't buy Happiness but you can buy Sushi!!!

Sushi has become very popular in Trinidad and Tobago in the last 10 years. Many different restaurants located throughout Trinidad are solely dedicated to sushi and Japanese cuisine. Sushi has become so popular that some places also offer it as a  take away meal.

Sushi has become one of my favourite go to meals that I will have several times a month if I could. I have even attempted to make sushi at home. Kaizan has become one of my favourties Sushi Restaurants. Whether it's Movie Towne, Port Of Spain or Price Plaza. They have a wide range of Sushi rolls, several new rolls and an interesting International Sushi Month around the world. Roll special which ran in the month of June, Buy any 2 rolls for $150 and any 3 rolls for $225. Kaizan provides you with an enjoyable experience, in a cozy atmosphere. My favourite rolls include Hella Hot, Crispy crunchy conch, Volcano roll. I also enjoy trying new rolls at each visit, but these three have become a standard at Kaizan Sushi. The service may sometimes be a bit slow even when the restaurant isn't crowded but the sushi is definitely worth the wait.

If you do not like Sushi, try one of their soups, the Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup is excellent and satisfying. You can bring friends and family who are not familiar with Sushi since Kaizan also provides a wide range of other meals that aren't Sushi.

Where should I visit next? Maybe Try some new foods, any suggestions?

Paul A Grant Steakhouse

Paul A. Grant Butcher's Steakhouse

A steak house in central Trinidad? Is that Possible?

Paul A. Grant Butcher's Steakhouse is located in Warrenville, Cunupia. A steakhouse in a simple setting which I believe is a work in Progress. The food is excellent, the menu offers a range of smoked and grilled meats and burgers. We had takeaway in the comfort of our home. You should walk with cash as they do not have Linx. The lamb and steak were succulent, and well prepared. The burgers were juicy and delicious.
